RESIDENTIAL
ANO POLI DUPLEX
This project is about the reconstruction and preservation of a preserved duplex in the traditional settlement of Ano Poli in Thessaloniki, Greece.
The challenge and difficulties provided a very interesting design approach as well as a special plan and direction of the works needed to be done. A very important part has been the research and study of the civil engineer, because due to the multileveled timeline of the existing construction, there were many parts like stone walls and wooden ceilings, that needed to be carefully examined and whether replaced or preserved according to their sufficiency, always with respect to the existing shell of the building.
Remodeling and reconstruction of this duplex has played a major role in the facilitation and functionality for the new users of this house.
A complete redesign in both floors has given us the opportunity to create spaces that fulfil a family’s needs, but also produce two fully functional and autonomous apartments in each floor.
The main doors and windows were preserved as they were, with efficiency updates, while a heating system was applied, which was a significant update for the old building.
The building’s identity has been well preserved but also updated and adapted to today’s user needs.
